Boketto.
Taloumbi, NSW
We stumbled upon the special block of land where boketto now resides, in 2016 during a day trip out to sandon river. We remember it as clear as the ocean was blue that day. One of those magic winters days, with clear skies, little wind and the bluest ocean. It was then we knew something special was in the making.

Welcome to BOKETTO —
Space for Everyone.
With four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms Boketto comfortably sleeps eight adults (no kids aged 2-12).
Designed with a combination of Scandinavian functionality and Japanese rustic minimalism. Some of the features are; an outdoor sandstone amphitheater and fire pit, indoor wood-burning fireplace, full kitchen, outdoor heated shower, double bathtub, lawn area for games, access to Red Cliff Beach and the Yuraygir Coastal Walk (1km), and unrivalled ocean and hinterland views.
Boketto [ bo-ke-tto ]
The English language is missing this simple, yet beautiful coined Japanese word, Boketto— the act of gazing vacantly into the distance, without intent. So akin the name, Boketto..
Sit, gaze and take in the wonder of the surrounding landscape or head out and submerge yourself in it. The location of the property encourages you to (re)connect with nature. The surrounding Yuraygir National Park boasts many trails and coastal walks, as well as beautiful isolated beaches, quiet lakes and rivers to explore. Swim, fish or surf to your heart's content, or simply stay in, and watch the whales (mid June to late October) from the comfort of the sunken lounge.
To add another level of experience at Boketto, book some morning movement sessions on the lawn, rejuvenating spa treatments, or welcome a private tasting of local wines around the fire pit at dusk. You may also like to relax on the first night of your holiday with a grazing board awaiting your arrival.

How Boketto came to be.
Katie grew up in a small coastal town in queensland, studied fine arts and travelled overseas before settling back in australia. Mat grew up on an organic stone fruit farm in regional nsw before moving to sydney to study environmental engineering.
We both separately moved to the area in 2015, and met on a nearby farming food event. We fell in love with each other, and the area, knowing we wanted to base our lives here and ultimately raise a family.

One of those magic winters days, with clear skies, little wind and the bluest ocean. It was then we knew something special was in the making.
The next 5 years saw many camping trips under the stars, meals shared with friends and family around a campfire, local caught seafood feasts, surf trips, whale watching and enjoying being surrounded by the property, dreaming of our forever home.
This period was also filled frustration, blood, sweat and tears, and almost loosing all hope of being able to build. Eventually all the stars aligned and we had plans, a builder, a bank loan and council approval.
While it was frustrating at the time, in hindsight it meant we had time to refine our vision for our forever-home, and create something truly deserving of this spectacular piece of the yuraygir coastline.
Something we are extremely proud of is that we largely designed the house ourselves. Katie's interior design and creativity brought together the colour palate and textured wabi sabi feels and mat's practical form-follows-function frank lloyd wright approach to design saw the layout come to fruition. You may notice there are many places to sit and relax through the house and garden, all taking in different vistas. While not entirely intentional, these spaces and moments of gazing without purpose is where the name boketto came from.
