Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept submissions?
Yes, we do! We open for submissions twice a year. To stay updated on our next callout, be sure to follow us on Instagram.
Submissions are based on knowledge sharing and stories of growth or real life experiences. Submissions are not business related. (We share business related stories in our marketplace which you can join here)
What makes a good submission?
Submissions come in many forms. As a general guide, we look for pieces around 800 words, sometimes accompanied by professional imagery—though this isn’t always required. We love writing that feels authentic, reflective, or visually descriptive. We’re all about sharing real stories, so we encourage you to write from the heart!
Do I need to be a professional writer?
Not at all. We welcome submissions from people of all backgrounds and experiences. You don’t need to be a professional—just passionate about what you’re sharing.
Will I receive feedback on my submission?
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we’re unable to respond or provide feedback to everyone individually. However, if we decide to move forward with your submission, we’ll be in touch.
Can I join your marketplace?
Yes! We feature a curated marketplace in each issue of the journal—published twice a year in June and December—as well as an ongoing online marketplace on our website.
We love showcasing conscious brands that align with our values, including handmade goods, ethical and sustainable products, art, thoughtful service-based businesses, slow fashion, eco-friendly items, and slow stays.
We understand that sustainability is a journey and no one is 100% perfect. If your brand is moving mindfully and making an effort, we’d love to hear from you.
Where do you print the journal?
The journal came from very humble beginnings—our first issues were printed locally in Coffs Harbour on 100% recycled paper. After Issue 8, we experienced significant growth and shifted to a print-on-demand model to help us keep up.
Printing on demand allows us to print only what’s needed and reduce waste. It also enables us to print in different countries, which means we don’t have to ship journals across oceans—saving on both cost and environmental impact.
Once we reach a certain number of subscribers, we plan to do a bulk print run in Australia using 100% recycled paper. Print-on-demand will continue to be used for international and off-season orders, as well as for keeping back issues available.
Can I do my work placement at SLOW?
Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer work placements at this time. We’re a small team working remotely, and our hands are pretty full behind the scenes. We truly appreciate your interest and support—it means a lot!
